Nothing wrong with separating the torso and head in these early stages. The big thing I think a lot of folks, including you, can work on for future sculpts is establishing clear relationships early in the sculpting process. what I mean is, look at the highlight on the front of the forehead. See how it seems a little pinched? Well, if the shape of the forehead is not in the usual range, then the shape of the brows can't be either, then the eye sockets, eyes, cheeks, etc. We'll talk more in class, but wither way good start!
