This week we had a google hangout Q & A session. I'd like to continue these in the future. This one went almost as long as a class, but in the future, I'd like to keep them to an hour. Before watching the recording, I wanted to share some thoughts with you all.
While I like to provide things like the blog, and a hangout here and there etc. NOTHING takes the place of actual class and being there consistently and on time. Last week I had a few students asking for info in a video or hangout, and I get it, last week was our most technical to date, but you have to make sure you understand the material in class.
If you need me to repeat something, or explain it a different way etc. I have no problem with that. Also, feel free to do some independent research as well. For example, a student mentioned they didn't have prior experience with UVs. They asked me to make a video, but I figured a hangout would be better. I sent an email to everyone earlier in the week to see if a hangout was OK, and I never heard from most folks about hangout attendance. I get it, maybe you were busy then, so no worries, maybe you can make it to the next one. But, there were some students who said they would be there and wanted the help, but never showed up. Again, I totally understand, life things pop up sometimes, and plans change. No worries. Maybe next time.
As I have stated before, PLEASE use me as a resource. I am not here to chastise anyone, or be some weird cop. I am hopefully someone who can help you look at how to use these tools and think about production in different ways. If you don't vocalize you need help while we are together in class, or when help is provided, you don't take advantage of it, I may not know you need it. Use me as a resource good people, it's why I'm here! :-).
Here is a recording of the first hangout (below).
